Here is my karate belt. As you can see, I have my name sewn onto the belt. For my karate school, I have to get my name on the left side of my body in order for my belt to be tied correctly. So, here is how to tie a karate belt!
1. Unravel your belt.
2. Make sure that you name and the other flap of the belt is visible. I'm going to call the flap with my name on it 'A' and the flap without writing on it 'B'.
3. Hook the belt around your waist, making flap A shorter than flap B. Your name should be on your left side.
4. Wrap flap B around your waist about 1-3 times depending on your belt and waist size. Make sure to leave enough flap B belt unwrapped so that it is still longer than flap A.
5. Take flap B and cross it on top of flap A.
6. Take flap B and cross it under the whole belt (including the part touching your stomach), fastening the belt in place by pulling the flaps apart.
7. Once fastened, again take flap B and cross it over flap A.
8. Than take flap B and make a regular knot with flap A. It is as if you are starting to tie your shoe.
9. Lastly, tighten the belt again. And there you have it, your tied karate belt.
